Immersion Opportunities
Immersion is a core value and key distinctive of Finding Life Church's everyday ministry. You see, we believe that if we are striving to be "imitators of Christ," then we must immerse ourselves in the community that we are called to love. For too long the church has been on a one-way track towards total extraction from the surrounding culture. The value of Immersion simply places value back on living like Jesus did, "immersed," in the culture in every way for the sake of loving, listening to, and responding to a world that is so desperately seeking Him.
Ultimately we see Immersion as a lifestyle rather than something you do, but we are in the process of re-learning the Christian Lifestyle because we have been programmed with the value of extraction rather than immersion.
This page was created to begin that process of re-training ourselves to value staying connected with our surrounding culture, and more importantly the many people that are living in it.
Below, we will continually be updating a list of upcoming opportunities for you to stay connected with the city of Omaha, and begin interacting with the people in your community.
We need your help, if you get wind of something, or have an idea, send an email to , and we will make the appropriate updates.
Let's have fun immersing ourselves together.
Current Opportunities
Winter activities:
With winter and snow come opportunities like sledding, snowball fights, and building snowmen and snow forts. Invite your neighbors and their kids to join you and your family for some winter fun. It's a great way to show your interested in getting to know the people living closest to you.
Shovel a driveway:
The next time it snows, grab your shovel or snowblower and take care of your neighbor's driveway at the same time you do yours. It's great exercise and it's a purposeful way to connect with a neighbor through your actions as well as words.
Show hospitality:
Invite friends or coworkers over to your home. Don't focus on impressing, focus on building relationships. Make a simple dessert, have plenty of hot chocolate and coffee ready and no other planning is required. While the kids play, just talk and find out more about those you've invited over- their backgrounds, their expectations for their lives or simply what they had for dinner. Most people love to talk so it'll be a fun evening finding points of connection with those you might not connect with otherwise.
Watch a game:
If your kids are on a winter sport team, plan a sports night with your kids and a couple of their teammates' families. Going to a Creighton basketball game or an Omaha Lancers hockey game could be a great way to connect. Enjoy a game and get to know the parents of your kids' friends at the same time. If cost is an issue, then check out a local high school basketball game or even just invite everyone to watch a game at your home. A Super Bowl Party could be a great opportunity to do that.
