Life-Giving Prayer
Open your Bibles to the book of Psalm. Ask people to simply read passages as they leaf through the book. Use it as your prayer time. Tell people to allow quiet space between passages to worship in response to the readings. Let God’s word guide your worship time tonight.
Follow up question
How did that feel? Why is it good to let God’s word be the guide for your worship sometimes?
Life-Giving Truth
How did last week’s truth impact your heart (The gospel is for everyone)
Did you find yourself seeing people different?
Read Acts 11:19-26
Now re-read verse 26
In your mind, what is a Christian? How do you become one? What does one look like, act like, think like and sound like?
What negative associations do you have with the word?
What does this passage, and our entire study of Acts, say about the word? What makes a person identifiable as a Christian? (Help people recognize it is a phrase given by others to describe your lifestyle. It is not something that you can buy, or give to yourself. It is a way you live.)
How might the people of Antioch’s qualifications for being a “christian,” be different than ours today?
Have you done what it seems to take to really be called a Christian? Why does it matter?
Why is it so much better to let others bestow us with the title than to give it ourselves? What does it mean, what does it show about our lives when that is the case?
