Read Acts 8:1-8
Talk about the passage… what is going on here? What do you notice that is interesting or strange?
Saul’s goal was to destroy the influence of the growing movement of believers in Jerusalem.
From the passage above, what can you assume Paul believed would really hurt the young movement of the gospel?
Three lies about the organized church
- It’s identified by it’s leaders
What have you experienced that would confirm this concept?
How does the modern church over emphasize the importance of it’s church leaders/pastors? Why is this a problem for mission?
- It needs a regular gathering to be legit (Church service).
Do you believe this is really a lie or do you believe the church needs a service? Why or why not?
What do you think would happen if we were no longer able to meet regularly? What does that reveal about what our church is built on?
- Persecution will stunt its growth
Why would scattering of the church be a positive thing in it’s kingdom focus and expansion? Why do you think that most churches, including ours would have a difficult time embracing this reality?
