Life-Giving Truth
Read Mark 2: 15-17
What was Jesus doing that was making the religious leaders so mad?
What implications does Jesus response have for the way we live our lives?
Extraction Vs Immersion
Extraction:
Heart position: Fear, self-righteousness and selfishness
The world is scary, dirty and dark. Anyone who loves God would never participate in it, or it’s activities
How do you view the world and the people in it?
Are you drawn to it, or more prone to extract yourself from it?
Why?
Result…
- We quit participating in the natural activities of our culture
- We create a disconnect between us and the world
- We lose the right to be heard
- We fall out of love with the world that Jesus died for
- We become judgmental and critical
Why is the above, “Extraction Effect,” so problematic in our attempt to… Help people find Jesus?
Read 1 Corinthians 9:19-23
Immersion:
Heart Position: Love, graciousness and self-sacrifice.
My life is a tool to be used for others. I will do whatever I need to do, in order to show you love, respect, and Christ.
Result…
- We throw ourselves into the natural activities of our culture
- We become part of the natural environment
- We earn trust, and access to hurting people’s lives
- We fall more in love with people, bringing us closer to the heart of the Father
- We become gracious people. A walking living breathing incarnation of the Father’s love in the world.
How does this concept make you feel?
Discuss how you could, participate in the natural activities of the world without crossing the line of sin.
What kinds of things do we need to do to make this true about ourselves?
What kinds of things would Paul do if he lived here, in Omaha Nebraska, in 2010? Where would he hang out? What would he do while hanging out?
